Font - Posted by u/Putilov-Garford 20 hours ago Manager asks my partner to pay for a guest's room with her own card. Short Me and my girlfriend both work for a large hotel chain in the UK. We deal with all sorts of guests but one of the main type of guests that come in are those who are staying for an hour or two (You know the type)

Font - Recently, we have stopped taking ALL cash payments. You cannot pay by cash anymore at all for a room. We have a guy who regularly comes in with all sorts of different women, and only pays by cash.

Font - He came in last night for a room, and got very frustrated that he can no longer pay for a room with cash. My girlfriend responded by saying its the new policy. He was stating that his card "Just doesn't go through". My girlfriend suggested that she creates a walk in booking to see if he can pay by cash that way but he didn't have any sort of ID.

Font - After about 10 minutes of him using my girlfriend as a verbal punching bag and straight up lying that he was told he can use cash by the previous receptionist, he DEMANDS she calls the manager, which she did. The manager talks to the guest, and then the manager tells my girlfriend to PAY for the hotel room with HER own card, and he'll give her the money back at the desk. The manager said she's done this for this guest before, and that he'll repay her in cash at the desk.

Font - This is going way beyond customer service. I said to her when she got home that this was the situation: • We don't take cash • He refuses to pay by card ● • He has no ID ● • There's nothing you can do. Wish ● him a good day, and step in the back until he leaves.

Font - My girlfriend heeded the advice from her manager and created a booking with her own card. The guest didn't even say thank you afterwards. Me and my colleagues are in absolute disbelief at the manager's suggestion. Insanity.

Font - Putilov-Garford OP 20 hr. ago · Exactly. That is almost verbatim to what I said to her when she got home. My hotel breaks all sorts of policies in the name of getting good reviews online. If we don't get a certain amount of good reviews per month, the district manager puts the hotel manager in hot water. So, now, we are advised to break policies to satisfy guest's demands. Font - IamA-GoldenGod 19 hr. ago What a pos manager. Well now you know you can have zero trust in that person, and you also know your gf is nice enough to make really stupid decisions in her life just to help out a holes that don't care about her. She needs to be educated and protected. Vote Reply Share Putilov-Garford OP 19 hr. ago Sometimes I feel that she's far too kind for her own good. A blessing and a curse. Vote ●●● Reply Share

Font - Fortune TellingBoobs 18 hr. ago Yeah no. This can lead to damage costs, thieving (so many $20 porn charges!), credit card fraud, all sorts of nasty stuff. Your GF is too nice for her own goos. Time to find a new hotel to work at AND forget her CC at home for every shift. ✩ Vote Reply Share

Font - Putilov-Garford OP 18 hr. ago One of the reasons why I think she's so eager to please the manager is because she's both a housekeeper and receptionist. Primarily a housekeeper, but it barely pays the bills, rent and other necessities. Receptionist by far and large pays the best, but she's rarely put on as a receptionist; she believes if she works hard and goes above and beyond, she'll be given more shifts. Vote Reply Share

Font - +3 · 17 hr. ago "Sorry, boss. Can't help you. My cards are all maxxed. That's why we were talking about my raise, remember...?" Gatchamic Translation: "Never gonna happen. Don't even think of asking me again. And how much are you kicking to me to not mention this to district... ?" Vote Reply Share

Font - harrywwc +2 18 hr. ago so, um, why didn't the mangler pay with their damn card? Vote Reply Share Vote Maid Of Clarity I realize that "mangler" here is probably a misspelling but it's also pretty apt. +3 18 hr. ago Reply Share

Font - southcoastal +1 - 16 hr. ago So the manager didn't use his card because if shit hits the fan he can (and will) throw your gf under the bus and deny he was even there. Your gf must not take her cards into work again. Enough cash for incidentals like lunch and train ticket or whatnot. That is all. It's the only way she's going to be able to say "no". Font - Putilov-Garford OP 16 hr. ago Apparently, the manager has actually used her own card to book for the same customer but justifies it because he hands her the cash back for it. You see, the manager is so desperate for good reviews, she is willing to break company policy in such a naked manner to serve as a mechanism for those good reviews. Vote Reply Share

Font - 18 hr. ago I would have flat-out refused. Where do you think incidentals get charged by default? Emotional-Ebb8321 Maybe see if you can claim a refund from your card company, as the card was used under duress? Vote Reply Share Putilov-Garford OP · 18 hr. ago I told her she should have just said that she left her card at home. Vote Reply Share

Font - UnmixedGametes 18 hr. ago That's how you get really serious crime. Vote Reply Share Putilov-Garford OP 18 hr. ago Exactly. Another possibiltiy is that guest could have caused absolute chaos, and the damage would have been charged to her card. Vote Reply Share

Font - MaidOfClarity +3 18 hr. ago Also what if her card couldn't cover the costs? Either due to not having enough funds or being locked out for some reason or other (such as fraud detection)? Are there not regulations against using an employee's personal financial assets for the company's? Vote Reply Share Cantsleepforever1 · 18 hr. ago Pretty sure it classes as money laundering-the chain i worked for fired a manager for doing this during lockdown. Vote Reply Share
